Anders was born in Bolinas, Sweden, on January 9, 1975. He was drafted by Detroit in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft and was the 1st choice, 22nd overall in the first round. He made his Red Wings debut on April 14, 1995 at Dallas and appeared in his first NHL playoff contest on May 23 at Colorado. At Adirondack, he led Defensemen in points and was sixth overall in scoring. Anders earned a silver medal in the 1993 World Junior Championship and won the 1992 European Championships with the Swedish National Team. He was voted Best Junior in Sweden in 1991 and at age 15, won the "Lill Strimmas" scholarship as top defenseman of the year.
